Forest Health Staffers Plan Public Appearances

Forest Health specialists with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources are booked to give public presentations during May.

The list of events that are open to the public:

Forestry Center Event

Alex Hornung, Forest Health specialist for central Wisconsin, will be one of the presenters discussing pine insects, diseases and management during a Wisconsin Forestry Center landowner workshop and field day.

The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to noon on May 22 at the George Rogers Living Forest, 4437-5199 Jordan Road, Stevens Point. Attendees must register to attend, and there is a fee of $15 for members and $25 for nonmembers.

Attendees are asked to wear boots and dress for the weather because the workshop will involve long periods of walking on gravel and mulch trails.

Clear Lake Appearance

Paul Cigan, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Forest Health specialist for northwest Wisconsin, will meet with area residents and members of the Clear Lake Homeowners Association, Sawyer County, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on May 24 to discuss oak wilt identification, prevention and management.

Bayfield Radio Chat

On May 30, Cigan will also join a panel to discuss forest health and other issues during the opening day of the annual Bayfield In Bloom event at the Bayfield Lakeside Pavilion.

A portion of the presentation, from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be broadcast live on Wisconsin Public Radio as part of host Larry Meiller’s “Garden Talk” program. A recap of the 2024 event is available on the WPR website. The Bayfield In Bloom event runs through June 7.
