Now that spring has sprung, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) staffers can expect questions from the public about their yard trees.

However, the mission of DNR Foresters and Forest Health staff is geared toward focusing on larger, forested areas, not yard trees. Those questions fall under the purview of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Extension Horticulture Program.

The “Ask Your Gardening Question” form is a one-stop shop for Wisconsin residents seeking help with lawn, landscape and garden questions, including yard trees. DNR staffers are encouraged to steer individuals who contact them with questions about yard trees to this page.

Extension Horticulture Program educators and volunteers will respond to each inquiry if the person asking the question provides their name, email, county and details about their question.

Those with questions about woodlots and forests, including public lands managers, are asked to contact their DNR county forester or regional Forest Health specialist.
