Date changed for urban landowner survey

Wisconsin DNR is collaborating with the USDA Forest Service to pilot an urban form of the National Woodland Owner Survey (NWOS), to better understand the people who own and manage our urban forests. The survey is paired with the Forest Inventory and Analysis (FIA) program, in which data is collected on our urban trees and forest.

The date for the mailing of the Wisconsin Urban Landowner Survey has been changed. The survey will now be mailed Monday, January 9th. This change was made to ensure a viable response rate and avoid conflict with the holiday and hunting seasons.

In January 2017, the Wisconsin Urban landowner Survey will be sent by the University of Wisconsin Survey Center (UWSC) to 6,000 urban residential property owners in four metro areas: Milwaukee, Madison, Wausau and Green Bay. Residents will first receive a letter invitation to complete an online survey, followed by a hard-copy paper survey. After the survey in completed, we will share results and reports.

In addition to improving the design of the national survey, the Wisconsin pilot survey will improve our understanding of the needs and interests of Wisconsin’s urban residential property owners. Urban forestry programs and Wisconsin communities will be able to use these insights to improve tree and green space programs and outreach for urban residents.
