Public comment opportunity:

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking input on the Urban Forestry Inflation Reduction Act Grants 2024 Application Guide.

This guide details:

  • The purpose, priorities and goals for the Urban Forestry Inflation Reduction Act grant opportunity
  • Eligible and ineligible projects and expenses
  • Required documents
  • Reimbursement and reporting schedules
  • Submission guidelines and deadlines
  • DNR contact information
  • Guidance for working with consultants and conducting work on private property
  • The methodology used to define disadvantaged communities
  • And more

This guide was created to support applicants applying for federal Inflation Reduction Act funding through the DNR’s Urban and Community Forestry Grant program. These federal monies have different requirements, which prompted the department to undergo the emergency rule change process to temporarily modify the state administrative code governing the grant program. Therefore, a new application guide was created that is specific to the Inflation Reduction Act funds and implements the approved emergency rule language. This document does not replace existing guidance for urban and community forest grant opportunities outside those offered through federal Inflation Reduction Act funding.

Please see the documents on the DNR’s Stakeholder Input Opportunities for Forestry Documents webpage for more information.

The public is encouraged to submit written comments regarding the clarity and completeness of the application guide by Feb. 6, 2024 to:
