Fungicide For HRD Stump Treatment Available In Smaller Size

People who have been dealing with Heterobasidion Root Disease (HRD) may be familiar with the product name “Cellu-Treat®.” It has been used to treat fresh cut stumps to prevent HRD.

But Cellu-Treat® is not the only chemical available for HRD. Another borate-based chemical, Tim-bor® Professional, can also be used legally for the same purpose in Wisconsin. Both products are manufactured by Nisus Corporation, and their labels are almost identical (Cellu-Treat label, Tim-bor label).

Common HRD Treatment No Longer Available

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Forest Health Newsletter reports that the fungicide Rotstop® C is no longer available in North America.

Rostop® C is commonly used to protect against Heterobasidion root disease (HRD) during conifer timber harvests. It has been discontinued in the North American market. Cellu-Treat® is now the only registered and available to prevent HRD in Wisconsin. Check out the article from DNR Forest Health for more detail.

DNR Staff Gets Tree Injection Training

LAKE GENEVA, Wisconsin — Fifteen employees of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources gathered at Big Foot Beach State Park on May 16 to learn more about using injections of systemic pesticides to protect the health of high-value trees at state properties.

Ten Wisconsin State Parks employees and five members of the DNR’s Forest Health team met with representatives of Rainbow Ecoscience and Bartlett Tree Experts to witness a demonstration of best practices for tree injections.
